Great introduction to mutual aid. Last section on handling conflict has many bits of advice that will be pretty useful thoughout life, not just in mutual aid groups.

Highly recommend for anyone engaged in work they care about, whether it strictly falls under the umbrella of mutual aid or not. This book provides concrete advice for taking care of yourself and the people with whom you work on projects, day jobs, or anything else. Well-writen and thoughtful.

Although I don't think I'll be in a community like this in the imminent future (living abroad), this helps radicalize my ideas about where my money can be going to make the most impact. It also hones in on community in a wonderful way. I love that this can be required reading for activist spaces and organizers, but it is extremely approachable and easy to digest.
In future editions or in an expanded edition, I would love even more anecdotes and data - However I appreciate how this should act mostly like a manual.
Biggest takeaways:
- nonprofits have to cater to donors rather than the people they're trying to help
- putting conditions on help (sobriety status, religion, criminal status, etc) just restricts who can be helped
- decisions should be made in a clearly defined way to make sure everyone feels like they've been heard
- WELCOMING NEW PEOPLE. This is something I think leftist spaces need to be doing so much better to be able to compete with the right who will take ANYONE.
- Allowing people to take part in the process to LEARN SKILLS.

mutual aid as a concept (to me) is intuitively logical but a bit hard to get involved in and to maintain. this book balanced between extolling its virtues and giving practical, actionable, structured solutions to implement it in daily life.
