This was cute and talked about a serious topic, but it was not handled very well. Several things that happened would not be able to happen if this actually were to take place.

Fast-paced, very quick read with lots of action to keep kids reading. Might be a good pick for reluctant readers, but the formatting of every edition I could get my hands on was terrible. Physical books are low contrast, and ebook didn't show who was texting (the whole book is written in texts between friends and updates to a school app) whether I read on my phone or laptop

I read this one to see if it would be appropriate for an elementary library and I was thoroughly disappointed. I did not like this at all. It may have been the format of the writing which is texts between characters, but it seemed very forced. You think the lockdown is about one thing and then the ACTUAL reason behind it was ridiculous. I feel this is an inaccurate depiction of what would happen, and honestly it gives students the idea that is OKAY to ignore protocols and that can be fatal, although it wasn’t in this book.

It's sad but important to have books around the topic of school shootings. It's the world we live in these days. Drills are a reality for our children. And so, just as we want windows and mirrors in regards to race/color/gender/sexual orientation......experiences are important as well

Here's the thing though....I kind of HATED the book. Well I didn't hate it. The texting medium did not bother me (as I know it did others). But the characters were whiny and bratty. They did everything WRONG during a drill (as did the faculty).....Eh, eh eh.

While I wanted it to be a book where you could talk about the tough things, in my mind, I felt this book took a more humorous approach (in how the characters talked, etc) and I just was not a fan of that
