You'll throw it at the wall when you're done but won't be able to put it down when you start it. Such a bleak but good story that you may never forget.

I read so many reviews about this book being cruel and disturbing, so I had to give it a read. And I can say, yes, it's just as grotesque as the reviews say. Admirably, so. From beginning to end I was thoroughly horrified. Vivid descriptions, gorey details. And at the end, you're left feeling the immense power humans have. And how fragile our ethics are. How quickly we could turn on each other, ravenous and desperate to get what we want... or need, even. This book was desperate and raw. Full of guilt and anguish. I love a book that can give me a flawed character, who commits horrible acts, and show me what led them to those decisions. Was Marcos right or wrong? Who can say, really. Until you're in his shoes and in that world. I think we're all much more capable of evil than we imagine.

There’s no character development and I didn’t really know what the plot was until I got literally halfway through the book and part two started, and then I realize the point of the book. It’s really gruesome, and the descriptions are vivid and horrendous I couldn’t eat while reading this book and the faces I made while reading was so funny because it felt like every chapter was just a new horror of the dystopian future and actually like pretty plausible like I could definitely see society becoming this way and they’ve always treated women like that so overall, it was good

Nauseating in the best way. This would’ve been an easy book to write poorly, to lean into a tirade, to take away the complexity of meaning in. Augustina Bazterrica avoided practically every trap door, and I’m very impressed.

I was horrified by this book, but it was such an incredible read, and I loved it for book club especially because there are so many layers of meaning in every choice made. I especially enjoyed (a word that feels strange to use) the way that the book ended, which caught me entirely off guard. I won’t say more, but I was shell shocked when this book ended and it hadn’t gone the way I anticipated.

This book *did* make me happy to be vegetarian while reading it, that’s for sure. Lastly, the content warnings here are about to be next level.
