Well… at first I thought this was a weird combo of Witcher & ACOTAR, maybe a sprinkle of Shadow & Bone, but then I decided it had more in common with Dollar Store bodice rippers from the 90s. It was forgettable, melancholy, boring, unoriginal, unimaginative. DNF @ 52% ~4hrs

Oh this is intense. Okay so she is human (ish), he is fae. He is cursed, she has magic! His uncle is terrible, her ex is also terrible. He feels responsible for the death of his one time lover, she feels responsible for the end of her world!! What a pair!!!!!
Love the possessiveness from both of them though! And when he bites her! His wolf!

2.5 stars but rounding to 3 for the sexy cover. The story and world building has potential and there were moments in here that did grab my attention but outside of those few moments this story dragged.

What an interesting premise for a paranormal/fantasy series. A post-apocalyptic world with fae, shifters and vampires. This book doesn't fit nearly in one genre for me. The presence of the fae and other creatures is very paranormal, but the more extensive world building gives a fantasy vibe. It features romance in each book in the series, but not easy romance, at least not in this book.
There was so much tension between Clarke and Rush. Distrust, opposing missions at first. They had a quest-like journey. Add in some learning at an academy. The chosen one. So many different tropes brought together, but it seemed to work. So many secrets means you finish this book still not feeling on solid ground. There's so much left unsaid.
This book lays the foundation for everything that happens in this overall series arc so we get a little of everything but not enough of one thing. The second half of the book left me one big ball of tension the whole time which I didn't love. I prefer to have a little romance levity and romance at least sprinkled in to make the tension more bearable.im hoping that now that the world is set up, the other books can focus a little bit more on the romances within their quests to save the world.
