Despite the fact that it ultimately felt like an extremely long prologue rather than its own story, I really enjoyed this. The world-building was expertly crafted, and although the two main characters weren't entirely original (they were basically Aladdin and Jasmine), their individual stories were compelling. I bought this at a bargain price for my Nook and thus didn't have terribly high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised to find myself really looking forward to moments when I could pick it up and read a few more pages. I'll definitely be continuing this series.

WOW! JUST WOW! This was just an amazing book with incredible world building and wonderful characters.

[a:Cinda Williams Chima|125308|Cinda Williams Chima|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1291420167p2/125308.jpg] did a great job building the world and introducing the characters.

The Demon King was just simply amazing. It had everything: politics, curses, wizards, a strong and wilful heroine, strong and bitter but loyal and reliable hero, cute but moody boys, and more cute moody boys.

I literally devoured this book in a day and a half and I have already started [b:The Exiled Queen|7801229|The Exiled Queen (Seven Realms, #2)|Cinda Williams Chima|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1285276245s/7801229.jpg|9842102].

This is a book I would recommend to everyone!

While the pacing is a bit slow, it thoroughly set up the world and introduced the characters. The book begins to really pick up after about 200 pages.

It’s great! Absolutely fantastic! I found this gem in the library when I should’ve been looking at my “want to read” list instead.
It’s slow, character building, and keeps you entertained. The two characters whose point of views are written in are barely seen together (but I loved the parts they were in together). There’s two completely different stories that tie in to a greater plot (obviously since it’s a series).
I’m not a fast reader and normally I read in small increments, but I read 400 of the 506 pages in two days because it was such a page turner. The beginning may be slow, but then it just clicks and you have to keep reading!

I’m glad I found this book even if I had no intention of reading it, especially since it’s a larger font and fifteen years old (the rest of the books have smaller font and more pages fyi).
Truly is one for everyone to enjoy!

Good set-up to what promises to be a great series. The characters are painted well, and are generally multifaceted; Han, Raisa and others are good but with some negative traits, and even cocky Micah has some good in him.
My biggest hang-up with Chima's books unfortunately reappears here - she seems to think that the easiest way to move a story along or get rid of a character you don't want to write a resolution for, is to kill that character off. I wish she would stop using death as a plot mover. Obviously, I don't need books where no one dies and everything is perfect, but it is a common theme in Chima's novels and smells a little bit of taking the easy way out. Otherwise, an excellent read. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Unfortunately, I just did not enjoy this book as much as I'd hoped to. The plot or characters never really grabbed my interest besides Amon and to an extent, Raisa. The pacing felt off and although it picked up more in the latter half, I still felt like I was forcing myself to read this which was a shame.

Definitely a first book in a series. It is focused on introducing and getting to know your characters with no real overlying plot but the plot does begin to develop towards the end. Only downside is that i predicted the ending when i was on the third chapter of the book. However, this did not ruin the book for me or discourage me from reading. After finishing this book, I am now just as clueless with theories as I should be.
