Still processing this read, but the twists and turns really got me emotional. I’m reminded how heartless and cunning someone can be.

I picked this up as kind of a pallet cleanser in between heavier books. It was exactly what I needed! Fast-paced but kept me guessing and enthralled the whole time. Good twists I didn’t see coming and a validating ending for our two protagonists.

I devoured this book! The Drowning Woman switched between the perspectives of 2 women, Lee a homeless woman down on her luck and living out of her car and Hazel, a rich housewife who claims she is being abused by her husband. The 2 women form an unlikely bond when Lee rescues Hazel from drowning and prevents her from ending her life.

I loved the dual character perspectives. There were times that we, the reader, knew what was happening before the other characters. I found myself rooting for both Lee and Hazel a happy ending. Parts of this story had me questioning what was the truth and what was the lie!

This book had everything I LOVE in a thriller.. mystery, suspense, plot twists, unreliable characters, drama, short cliffhanger chapters! I would totally recommend to anyone that likes a good thriller that is equal parts, plot and character driven!

It’s not that I didn’t like this book, it’s just that I felt it didn’t bring anything new to the thriller table. I predicted most of the twists and it wasn’t as entertaining as I was anticipating. I was not very invested in what was happening with these characters either. Just a standard unlikely friendship with one being in a abusive behind the door marriage. If I hadn’t read so many thrillers in my time I probably would’ve liked it more but it didn’t shock me at all
except for the plot point of Jesse/ Carter having a hand in so much more than I guessed as a reader.
It was ok

SYNOPSIS
  • Lee is currently unhoused & living out of her car. She’s waiting tables at a shady diner in Seattle, and she’s living in her car.
  • Lee decides to start sleeping in car in a secluded park with a beach area in an upper class neighborhood. One morning, she wakes up when she hears a woman drowning, and she saves the woman. The drowning woman, Hazel, and Lee become friends.
  • Hazel confides in Lee that she’s in an abusive marriage, and basically, she came out there to end her life that morning. As their new friendship begins, Hazel asks Lee if she will consider helping Hazel disappear & start her new life.

MY THOUGHTS
  • Harding is a talented writer.
  • Short chapters.
  • Structured in different parts. We begin with Lee’s POV, then shift to Hazel’s POV.
  • I thought the first half was a much stronger than the second half, and I really loved Lee’s part. It started off very strong.
  • Some plot holes and inconsistencies that don’t make sense. Also, the story generally requires suspension of disbelief.
  • This one had a lot of potential, and I was let down in some ways. It was an awesome beginning, a blah middle, and an okay ending.

TL;DR: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫3.5 stars. Really awesome beginning. Execution wasn’t really up to par for middle & ending. Still enjoyed the read.

This book had a bunch of twists and turns. It turned out to be unexpected
in certain scenarios, with me chucking my theories out the window! The author kept my attention with the plot & I enjoyed this book.
