Real exposition! Yaaay! It's all kind of shallow, though. If book 1 had started with this level of exposition then I'd probably have enjoyed everything a lot more through now. This felt a little like it was too little too late: at this point I've already formed whatever degree of attachment that I'm going to develop with these characters. The story is interesting but I've already had to read through the massive horror sequences of the first two books without really knowing why I should care about them. I'll finish since I'm reading through the omnibus edition but if I were reading this when it was originally serialized then I'd probably not bother even though it's not bad. Bilodeau just hasn't given me enough to care about resolving the cliffhangers at the end of each of the three books so far.
