This book did an excellent job of showing another instance of the US government trying to control the lives of the poor, especially if they were persons of color. On a more personal level, it examined the problems inherent in a healthcare worker becoming too involved in her cases. There were perhaps a few too many elements being juggled in the story for it to be 5 stars from me, but I highly recommend it.
Graphic: Bullying, Child abuse, Blood, Abortion, and Classism
Moderate: Genocide, Mental illness, Racism, Medical content, Grief, Medical trauma, Death of parent, and Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Cancer and Car accident
