Margaret Atwood never ceases to amaze me. She is one of the most adventurous and versatile writers I've come across. If she discovers a new way to tell a story, you better bet she will try it out.
Alias Grace is a novel, but it is based on the real-life story of Grace Marks who was sentenced to life in prison for murdering her employer Mr. Kinnear and his housekeeper/lover Nancy Montgomery. Public opinion was divided over Grace. Was she a plotting and cold-hearted murderess or was she a simple-minded pawn? Atwood plays with this question not just as it relates to Grace Marks but also as it relates to all women.
The story is intriguing and creative as Atwood fills in the gaps left by history to tell us the truth about Grace Marks. She also adds some interesting and multi-faceted characters along the way. Monsters and angels. We are one and all.
5 stars!

Disappointing with no conclusion. In true Atwood fashion, she uses quotation marks sparingly and leaves much up to interpretation. If you want a book that answers any of your questions at the end, this ain't it.
