This book is equal parts inspiring and convicting. A lot of that which is articulated in the book reflects much of what I have been pondering and thinking about in relation to the church and I appreciated reading about his journey through it and being challenged on many of the base ways we go about being the church and reminded of some areas where we may have strayed a lot from a biblical model. The idea of smaller churches is one that has been stirring in me for a while and although he shares how they have done it, it still leaves the door open for different ways of approaching this in one’s own community. Well written and communicated- thankful to be challenged in these things.

Very thought-provoking book. I think every church-going Christian in America should read it, reflect on a personal level, and then take a good hard look at our local churches and see where we've fallen short of the Biblical guidelines we are to follow.

Audiobook

Really enjoyed Chan’s book about our church today. He obviously took on a HUGE task by writing a letter to the church of today because there is so much to talk about. I really loved how he put church in the eyesight of scripture instead of science and how to grow as fast as possible. You can tell that his heart was poured into every word of this book. He did contradict himself a few times when talking about loving your church and changing it but outside of that, really good read.

Honest, direct and needed. I reserve my 5 star ratings for books I would read again, or for books that I would revisit for specific information or thoughts that stood out to me.

Really interesting and challenging. Asking lots of good questions and offering solutions as well. At times I found the style a bit emotionally intense but I still found the book helpful in reflecting on what church is and where we are at at the moment in the west.
