The book features a lot of dead bodies and gore so beware.

It's hauntingly beautiful love story about saphic witches at its core. And if that wouldn't convince you to read it idk whst else will. I liked how it expanded upon original poem while still keeping the vibe. You can buy pretty much anything at goblin market if you're willing to pay. If you follow the rules you'd be safe. However goblins don't like humans. Sometimes market visitors are found dead or not found at all. Why do people keep coming despite danger? Some believe they'll be fine, some want a little bit of risk in their lives, some caught an eye of pretty goblin girl. 😉

It has two timelines and I really appreciated huge "TWENTY YEARS AGO" written above chapters in the past. I personally cracked the mistery if you can call it that about halfway through. It's not even that compicated.

I don't know you tagged the book as a young adult. It's definitely for adults judging by the sheer amount of gore and other stuff going on. Just because the main character is young adult doesn't mean the book is young adult. 🤬

Good dark fairy tale kinda thing, but the gore and stuff isn't really described in a way that creates a scary atmosphere, but just briefly mentioned and there's never really any doubt that the characters would make it out ok, so I wouldn't label it as horror.
But it was nice plot and the market was pretty interesting. Also the teen discovering who they are was done much better and a bit subtler than typically done, which I liked.
I hated the two timelines tho, especially in the audio it was often confusing when it switched at first and also I just wasn't really interested. I would've preferred it just be the current story.

this was a hard book to rate. on one hand, i really liked the lore, and it had a little bit of everything - horror, adventure, romance, fantasy, and for a YA book (which is NOT usually my top genre), i didn't hate reading it. but i also feel like it could have been so much more and it was hard for me personally to overlook all the editorial mistakes & so many unanswered questions.

i wanted to love it and give it a 4 so badly but i just can't.

I chose this audiobook because of the goblin theme—I love goblins and the trope of goblins stealing humans. Bovalino did not disappoint! The goblin market sounded so horrific and magical at the same time. The descriptions were so gory, and I just loved the setting. I liked May's storyline more than Lou's because of her romance arc, and I just found her to be more of an engaging character. Overall, the story itself was great, but the narrator who did the accents wasn't the greatest. The accents threw me off because they sounded like the narrator was imitating the real thing, but adding their own invented accent to it because they'd forget how it would sound like 😅 So if you want to check this book out, I recommend reading a physical copy!
