David Levithan's books always leave me thinking, and I enjoy that even if I don't always love or agree with the characters choices. They do feel like complete character choices though, not the author's.

There were problematic parts especially on behalf of Rhiannon with her fat-phobic comments, refusal to use the correct pronouns for the trans person and what felt like a refusal to understand A's own queerness...

The storyline was still brilliant though, and I think Rhiannon's character added depth and realness to the story in its own way, but I wish the author would've made it more blatantly written in the wrong with A disagreeing or correcting her more openly...

I did like the ending (with exception of Rhiannon's part in it), and I enjoyed that there were multiple twists along the way.

Part of what I like about this book is the every consuming presence of first love, and a unique twist on a bildungsroman story as A learns more about themself and the power love has on their existence. It’s a 2010s story at the heart, with some cliches splashed in here and there, but it was an easy story that proved to be a a thought-provoking reminder that love reaches beyond physical appearances or gender.

Not all books need to have a thick plot, but to say this book has none would be an understatement. Unlikeable characters can be a good thing, but I just couldn't really find much that I liked about this book. It could be worse I guess? Just wasn't for me.

This book was...something. At first, I thought I liked it, but after time, I realized, there was no way The characters were bland and unlikeable, and the book felt like it was trying to be the best book ever, and it failed. I hate our characters with a passion, the mental health themes triggered me severely, so I can say genuinely, that this book was not good for my mental health. The so-called romance, was rushed, boring, and included two characters that make my blood boil. There was not one character I liked. Not to mention, the way our main character messed with others lives, doesn't pay up for his actions, and has no regard for others. He's manipulative, he blatantly objectified the women in these book, and he was excused because reasons? The love interest is clearly uncomfortable with the idea of dating him because of their gender, and the main character pressures her, making her even more uncomfortable! My least favorite book of the year so far, maybe ever This book is just a  mess, and in the worst way possible. Sometimes, it pops into my mind, and I get angry. As usual, please check the trigger warnings, if for some reason you chose to read this book. Mental health comes first!

This was very easy reading fiction, such a great plot and interesting concept to delve into. I also really liked the brief moments looking into different peoples realities and how they shape the flow of their lives.
