Soooo, I like dark romance and I’ve read a ton of fucked up shit this year that I’ve loved but this is not one of them. I liked it at first but it went to shit.

Shane gets out of prison after serving 10 years for a crime he didn’t commit. He’s going to make politician Ed Beck, the man who framed him pay no matter what and Shane’s going to use his son, Rosen, to do it.

Rosen is a college student majoring in art forced to stay in the closet and join a frat in exchange for his dickhead father paying his tuition. He’s a virgin, innocent and has stars in his eyes when he meets Shane.

Shane brings Rosen drugs one night to sell at the frat. His plan is to call the cops and get him arrested but once he sees how pretty he is, he decides to use him instead. They have sex and it’s out of this world for both men. Shane is dazzled by Rosen and actually likes spending time with him.

A bunch of drama happens involving a dead frat member, moving a body, hitting a dog with a car etc etc and ends with a fight between the main characters. Shane decides Rosen isn’t the sweet boy he thought he was and puts his revenge plan in motion. He lures Rosen to his home and into a shipping container he’s set up with a mattress and video camera. Once in there, Shane attempts to rape Rosen on camera to blackmail the dad. But Rosen fights back and once Shane sees his tears he can’t go through with hurting him and lets Rosen go.

—This was unforgivable and ruined the whole book for me. I dont know why Rosen would want to forgive him. He sexually assaulted him FFS

Merikan|6150530|K.A. Merikan|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1612713027p2/6150530.jpg]. In keeping with these authors’ usual style, it features dark themes and morally ambiguous characters you can’t help but love. However, compared to their usual offerings this book was actually fairly tame; ‘Merikan lite’ if you will. I loved the characters and as expected the MC’s chemistry was electric from the start. I was expecting things to get a bit darker, but can’t really complain that Rosen and Shane got their HEA without the usual insane obstacles that befall most of these authors’ characters. Regardless of my expectations, I quite liked this book and can see a lot of potential for the rest of the series. I’m already looking forward to the next one!

Shane and Rosen's romance defied my expectations, and I'm not sure if I loved it or hated it. Rosen and Shane gravitated together so quickly, the lines blurring from hookup to boyfriend so fast that I couldn't keep up with Shane's poorly defined revenge plan. Despite what he claimed, I honestly saw no signs that he ever planned to seek revenge until his and Rosen's horrible fight, and the aftermath of that day left a bad taste in my mouth. It's not that I was under any illusions that Shane was a spotless hero, but I didn't expect him to turn into such a monster, even if he was emotional and off-kilter. My inability to understand Shane's motivations bothered me for most of the story, if I'm being honest, and it's why I had such a hard time trusting that he really cared about Rosen. I don't think he truly won me over until the last 20% of the story, and while those last chapters were a lot more enjoyable for it, I wish I'd been able to connect with him earlier. Rosen was such a naive sweetheart, and it really bothered me how quickly he trusted everyone's intentions. The idea that he'd made it to college without becoming even a little bit jaded was hard for me to believe, but maybe his feelings were what blinded him when it came to Shane. Either way, I was shocked by how passively Rosen allowed Shane back into his life after what he did. Sure, they didn't immediately jump back into bed or anything, but I don't think I would have been as forgiving. Everything seemed to work out for the two of them in the end though, so I can't stay mad, but boy did it make for an emotionally confusing ending. I wanted to be satisfied to see justice served to the real villain of this story, but I was still torn about Rosen and Shane's spotaneous reunion.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

Shane planned on framing Rosen Beck to pay back for what is father had done but when he saw him he had a change of mind . Rosen hates his father but has to play by his rules and stay in the closet so he’ll pay for his college when he meets Shane things change . However he still holds Shane at arms length and Shane thinks he’s made a mistake and turns back to his original plan to discredit Ed Beck by using his son. With hearts broken on both sides neither wants to admit they still need each other but when Shane finds out what Rosen has done all bets are off he’s going to get his guy back no matter what.
