The writing was bad.

The plot was bad. Ridiculous but not in a good way. Just not believable and too many things didn't make sense.

The characters were immature. Family dynamics were dysfunctional.

Poor to zero communication between the main character and her love interest.

I had a wonderful time reading this book. It was excellent. I haven't laughed this much in awhile.

this book was delightful. it was very tropey in some ways and very fast paced and within that there were probably some borderline problematic things, but it went by so fast i can't remember everything that happened. overall it was lovely to just ride the wave with and i really enjoyed the campyness of it all because we need more camp books.

Despite the number of potential trigger warnings, this book is NOT what meets the eye and was quite the entertaining read!

I wasn't ready to love this book as much as I did!  It was genuinely laugh out loud funny.  I never knew where this story was going, which made it an exciting read.  I love that there's discussion questions in the back, making it a great choice for a buddy read or book club.  I could tell Jesse Q. Sutanto put a lot of heart and personal experience in this book.  I'm a big fan of all of the Indo Chinese cultural references and every character felt authentic.  I can't wait to read the sequel!

Also the author mentioned a Netflix movie adaptation!  I haven't seen any status updates besides Netflix having the rights so I hope it gets made, because I would love that!
