Anyone who knows me knows that I love Hallmark Christmas movies. They also know that I love reading. So... a novelization of one of the most popular Hallmark movie series? Naturally, I couldn't wait to check it out.

In this book, we meet Katie, an author who is on the search for her second novel, as she makes her way to Evergreen, Vermont. On the train, she meets local Evergreenian Ben who is more than a little skeptical about Katie's intentions in Evergreen. Still, as they arrive- the magic of the town certainly does have a way of drawing people together. With a broken snow globe, a town mystery and loads of Christmas traditions, it's truly hard not to fall in love with this sweet holiday romance.

If the plot sounds familiar, that is again because this is a novelization of an Evergreen movie from last year. As much as I love the movies, I will almost always prefer a book over movie. Books allow us to dig deeper into what the character ISN'T saying, allowing us to get to know them so much better... at least in my opinion. While I normally prefer book first then movie, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it to be a great way to revisit a favorite holiday town.

Overall, this was a quick and fun holiday romance that Hallmark fans are sure to enjoy this holiday season.

**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

Christmas in Evergreen: Tidings of Joy
By: Nancy Naigle
Hallmark Publishing

If you love The Hallmark Channel Christmas movies, then you’ll love this book! That’s because this book IS a Hallmark movie! I know it’s usually the book then the movie, but not this time! The book is nearly identical to the movie, just with a lot more details. I like that!

Christmas is Evergreen: Tidings of Joy is a romance between main characters Katie and Ben. They meet on the train headed to Evergreen. Katie is a writer based in NYC and Ben works at the library in Evergreen helping his Nan. Ben, however, used to be a writer in Chicago so these two have a lot in common. Their romance felt a little too insta-love for me, but i’ll over look it because it’s Christmastime and we all know Christmas is full of magic.

The town of Evergreen is picturesque and full of whimsy. They have a snow globe, that grants wishes, after all. The plot of this one revolves around the snow globe breaking, which catapults a series of events in order for the town discover and open the 50th anniversary time capsule. The time capsule ends up being a mural and an advent calendar.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book is delightful! I fell is love with the town of Evergreen. It’s your typical small town where everyone is looking out for each other and is family!

Thank you @netgalley and Hallmark Publishing for honoring my request to read and review this eARC. Add this one to your holiday list. It’s out today - 11/3! I wish everyone a joyous Holiday Season!

I love a good Christmas story and Holiday movies are my jam. I could watch them all year long and few do Christmas like Hallmark.
That being said, I haven’t seen this movie to compare the adaptation into book form. I have read other Hallmark movies turned into books and understand the process is different from writing a book. I also haven’t read the other books or seen the other movies in the series. But they’re on my list.
This had everything I expect from Hallmark. Cute romance, multiple subplots, Christmassy charm, snowmen, ice skating, and peppermint hot chocolate.
Ben seems almost too perfect, but flawed characters are few and far between in Hallmark world, but perfect for a mindless sink into a good story with a lively cast of characters and setting that acts as another character.
It’s easy to get lost in the magic of Evergreen, and it’s on my bucket list of fictional places I want to visit if they were real.
I enjoyed the cliché holiday scenes and loved the addition of the advent time capsule. The mystery was solved easily, but the older residents subtly nudged toward its discovery in fun ways. There was a healthy dose of emotional punches for the residents of Evergreen and they’re always fun to read.
I loved how Katie was a tourist and the scenes from her POV really showed the outer beauty of Evergreen while the scenes from Ben’s really showed the inner beauty.
The writing is passive, but it doesn’t detract from the way the story pulls you in.
As always, there’s a delicious recipe at the end; Hallmark should really release a cookbook of them all.
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Hallmark in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Another charming return to the wonderful town of Evergreen. This story with the town mysteries, and the bookish/writing angle thrilled my mystery/book loving heart. Cute story and fun ending.

This series is just so cute and Christmasy I love it. It’s nothing too deep or anything in the instalove does kind of make me roll my eyes but it’s just so cute and I love it. I would definitely recommend this series to read during Christmas time.

This was such a fun Christmas love story, that I feel can be enjoyed year round. Reading it you can’t help but fall in love with the people in Evergreen and it makes me want to move there. I never read the first two books of the series but you can read this book as a standalone and still throughly enjoy it.

Nancy Naigle has become the Queen of taking Hallmark movies and translating them into book form. Despite the fact I’ve seen the movie, reading the book still feels as warm and cozy to me as if I didn’t know the story. I’d say that is the sign of a good writer.

In her latest book, we see Katie taking the scenic trip from New York City to the town of Evergreen (the setting of several other books and movies) by train. Katie is a writer looking to get some rest and relaxation and inspiration for a second book. On the train she meets Ben, a former NYC reporter turned Evergreen librarian who informs Katie the things that make Evergreen so special. It doesn’t take long for Katie to understand what Ben has told her, but is this place really too good to be true? After her editor mother requests Katie write an article on the town, will she be able to write with the critical eye that she requires? Having had several negative articles written by other journalists in the past, Ben is feeling very protective about the town he calls home.

Evergreen has a unique history, and this is the year that the town needs to find the key to opening the time capsule which was sealed up fifty years ago. This provides a context for the story which includes many activities we have associated with Christmas. The community absolutely loves Christmas, and eats and breathes it during the season. For those that have read any other books (or seen the Hallmark movies) set in Evergreen, you will understand the small town charm that oozes from its citizens: the reason why many that visit never leave.

I love to read these books and watch Christmas movies and 2020 only makes me want it more. I’d love to be transported to Evergreen for a stay and this book allows me to feel as though I have. The characters are well developed, likeable and the story engaging. Although this book is not officially part of a series, there is a history in Evergreen that continues from the earlier books. I love how several romances transpire during the length of the book and Hallmark really does this well. What I really appreciated, though, was the added bonus of the time capsule: what it unlocks is simply magical.

Thanks to Netgalley and Hallmark Publishing for the ARC of this book in exchange for the honest review provided here.

3.5 Stars. Katie, a resident of New York City, decides to take a trip to Evergreen, Vermont prior to Christmas. On the train ride into Evergreen, she meets Ben, a former journalist and local resident. Katie discovers the joy and magic of Evergreen when the town discovers the Christmas Time Capsule from fifty years ago.

Christmas in Evergreen: Tidings of Joy is fairly quick read if you are looking to continue to extend the holiday season as long as possible {I know I am!}. This written adaptation of the Hallmark movie stays fairly true to the story, and while both are enjoyable, I do like the original Christmas in Evergreen the best. Overall, the novel is a festive, fast, and fun read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
