I didn't go into this book with any real expectations.
It's the story of a childhood friendship turned lavender marriage with a hint at a murder mystery.

The protagonists are flawed and selfish and the lovers they have vary in likeability. I found myself still quite invested in their lives.

Very witty dialogue and some beautiful imagery. The characters were interesting and sometimes assholes but I loved to hate them. The historical setting was really immersive and engaging and, as far as I know, quite accurate.
The only thing I didn't like was the ending, it felt rushed and out of place - like the author only remembered that she foreshadowed a murder plot at the last minute and had to throw one in randomly

New drinking game! Take a shot everytime garlic or mushrooms are mentioned. Double shot if it’s to describe how stinky someone’s dick or breath is!

“nothing. you’re right- i like men. i do! and you like women. let’s get married. we love each other, don’t we?”

i hate to do a low rating :-(
but this book wasn’t my cup of tea and needed a lot of trigger warnings at the start. the plot idea of following a lavender marriage from the 1920s to 1990s was v good though!!
