Until Proven Safe opened my eyes to all the ways in which the concept of quarantine is integrated into daily life: from the isolated and dreary lazarettos to negative-pressure hospital rooms with hazmat-clad medical workers; from examining shipping containers and destroying compromised organic material to testing large-animal pathogens in biocontainment facilities; from burying nuclear waste underground to preventing the introduction of microorganisms to Mars from Earth - or vice versa.
Both well-researched and interesting, this book dives deep into every possible interpretation of the word "quarantine," including the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Beautifully done.
