Gah! I do NOT like insta-love stories and yet I’ve somehow stumbled across a continuous stream of them. That said, I really liked this story. Low internal angst ~ almost all the action/mystery/intrigue was from external sources. And this couple really worked for me. They were neither perfect nor annoying ~ the author found a great balance.

I’m looking forward to the next book.

This was a refreshing book and my first from Tatum West. When Gil moves back to his hometown after burning out, he's a little hesitant because the town isn't exactly known for being open-minded when it came to his sexual orientation. But when he meets Kendall everything changes and he is instantly attracted to him. Then, Kendall helps him out with information about his case, and they grow even closer together. I enjoyed getting to know both these men and although their connection is hot from the beginning, what both men had to work through as they dealt with discrimination and a ramped up investigation that might put both their lives in danger adds tension to the story. It's a great book and I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. Although there are great subplots, the relationship between Gil and Kendall is what makes the story great!!

I don’t know how to explain this series. I like it, but I’m in love with it. However, I can’t pinpoint what is throwing me off.

I did listen to the audio, and love both the narrators.

I can’t haiku
once with a book so awful.
So much wrong with this.

Cum is barely an
acceptable noun. Never
a verb. Instalove.

Decor descriptions
go on forever. Food too.
It’s all OTT.

And the gays! How
they suffer! They’re just victims.
Melodramatic.

Lakes don't have currents.
Search warrants have rules.
Inconsistent. Bad.

Just bad. Really bad.
Embarrassingly awful.
Read for a challenge.

Didn’t really work for me, I’ll admit I hit the fast forward button on all of the sex scenes, sometimes a little goes a lonnnngggg way.
Also I’m not sure if it was my Hoopla app or what but the narrators were so unmatched with the volume, I had to crank my volume up to 30 just to hear it

Loved it

This book was an amazing start to this series! Totally addicting and I can’t wait for Dillion’s love story.

Gil is the new Chief of Police, and he’s stirring up trouble. And he’s also determined to solve all the violence that is going on in this county. Kendall is his light where everything else is dark. This book has it all, it’s got lots of action, some mystery, an amazing story and an epic love story.
