Twisted. Entertaining. Fresh.

Again, I wish I could do half stars. I'd do 3 1/2. Thought it was a little anticlimactic, but the read was overall entertaining and kept me going.

Having finished The Golden Couple, I started reading The Anonymous Girl and wasn't disappointed.
Greer Hendricks and Sara Pekkanen are quickly becoming auto read authors for me.
This was a true suspenseful psychological thriller. I felt the tension and Jess' dread increasing throughout the book. I also listened to parts on my commute and the dual narrators were excellent. The therapists' narration was subtly creepy and increased the tension.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press for my copy.

I was really excited to read the second book by this author duo but I was left a little disappointed.

The substance of the story was interesting enough. A therapist finds an anonymous girl to participate in a morality study. The book definitely was an examination of morality, and the reader has to draw their own conclusions about right and wrong.

Though I liked the idea of the plot, I was bored during the first half. I like unpredictability, but the first half wasn’t exactly page-turning. There wasn’t enough action in the beginning to keep me picking it up, which is why it took me so long to finish.

The therapist viewpoint chapters were quite bland. A lot of her chapters contained passive language that didn’t hold my interest. I did enjoy that the writing style was different between the therapist and Jess, but not enough to be absorbed in the therapist chapters.

Though I was bored in the beginning, I became invested around chapter 35. That’s when stuff started happening that kept me interested. I still didn’t enjoy the therapist chapters, though. I really thing if the writing style in those was different, I would have enjoyed the whole book more.

Memorable Quotes
"People are motivated to break their moral compasses for a variety of primal reasons: survival, hate, love, envy, passion. And money."

"We all have reasons for our judgments, even if those reasons are so deeply buried we don’t recognize them ourselves."

"Mistakes are born when methodology is ignored."

"So much of my life has been constructed around a fallacy; my own assumptions imprisoned me."

Sometimes you just don’t mesh with an author’s writing style and I think that’s my problem with this author duo. I’ve read two books from them and couldn’t give either one more than 2 stars. I thought the first half of this one was decent, then it took a downward turn and the ending was super disappointing.

Really enjoyed this read. Jessica’s character completely changed at the end but growth was needed. Loved!

(I was given this advanced copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.)
I was interested in reading this book because the author's first (The Wife Between Us) was awesome. While this book is intriguing, it's not as good as the first one. The plot is definitely unique, and I was anxious to find out what happened next. But I was waiting for some big twist, and it never came. I would rate this book 4 - 4.5 stars. Worth the read!
