This book is about
a woman spiraling because of her controlling and abusive husband.
The metaphor of the yellow wallpaper is done quite well, and the story has a strong impact, especially for its length. I read it really quickly, and the author's writing style was impeccable. Would recommend!

A pretty average collection but The Yellow Wallpaper is such a standout story.

Like come on, this books is so good. One of my favorites if not my favorite short story. This is the most scary non traditional horror book I've read. The sheer ability to convey such imagery and emotions in under one hundred pages is actually insane (pun intended). And the fact that this book was inspired by something similar happening to the author just makes it more real. Unbelievably astounding and eerie.

[retrospective - read in: fall 2020]

yes, i indeed do have a favorite short story. and yes, this is the one.

if you're down for a gothic feminist story from the 19th century, with slow-burn suspense and a mind-bending climax that gets terrifyingly psychological (which reflects on the inner battles that victims of mental illness go through)... then you're in a for treat here! 0_0
