This is setting up to be an adorable story arc! Getting to see Jen and Barney in amidst the activities is a fun little twist - we don't actually usually see them much. The girls are usually sneaking away from Jen and Barney is usually off with their own cabin. Plus, we've got the epic friendship between Jo and April taking the lead here, followed up closely by some very cute Mal and Molly moments. This was basically a perfect issue for me - cliffhanger and all! Super excited to see what happens next.

Lumerjanes is by far one of the most relaxing series I’m reading right now. Though in a way I’m sad that this is the last issue of the year. Not because it was a letdown, but because I’m greedy like that.
I have to admit that in all the issues we’ve seen from Lumberjanes, I don’t think we’ve ever seen a birthday focused issue. I know, it’s hard to believe. So it only made sense that eventually we’d come to a point where one of the Roanoke kids would have a birthday. Personally, I love the decision to have that person be Jo. She doesn’t get to be the focus enough, if you ask me. Plus the way April dotes on her can be pretty adorable.
I was surprised that this issue wasn’t a one-shot story, though I am happy for it at the same time. I think it’ll only be two issues…but I could be wrong. The Lumberjanes have a knack for getting themselves into weird situations…
