This graphic novel investigation into The Warren Commission Report is engaging and informative. They didn't seek out to confirm the report or solve Kennedy's murder; instead, they decided to explore the uncertainty around the assassination and how that led to all the conspiracy theories. I think they were successful in that endeavor. They explained the evidence, the inconsistencies, and the mistakes made during the investigation.

I learned new information about Lee Harvey Oswald. I haven't read much about the assassination, and they didn't talk about it much while I was on school. This graphic novel lays out the information and uses imagery to make the story easy to understand while allowing readers to draw their own conclusions.

I'm truly impressed! The creators did a fantastic job of making a documentary in comic book form. The art looked like stock footage I had seen on old news reels. The panel design was interesting without being distracting. And the writing was superb!

At first, I thought this was a graphic depiction of the Warren Report (of which I remain skeptical) but that would be a vast oversimplification of the book. Instead it is critical of the Report and explains the larger forces at work in the government and society. It does not necessarily endorse the findings of the Report but neither does it endorse any of the myriad conspiracy theories about the JFK assassination. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in the JFK assassination. It pushed me to think more deeply and critically about everything I have learned about the event.

"To be too certain carries dangers of its own."
The very last line of Mishkin's afterward perfectly sums up the problems with how the JFK assassination was handled. The Warren Commission was too certain they were right and refused to acknowledge the possibility of other explanations. Even though they very well might have been right, their false portrayal of certainty and unanimity about what happened caused only greater problems in the long run. This book doesn't seek to point the blame at anyone in particular for the assassination or provide a definitive answer to what really happened. Instead, it lays out all the evidence and tells everything about what was happening on all sides at the time. Never do we see what the authors really think happened, and it's a fairly unbiased look at the mess that this became. I've always been fascinated by the JFK assassination ever since I had to create my own "Warren Report" for a project in high school explaining what I thought really happened. I'll always be curious to know what really happened, and I'll always remember the first time I watched the Zapruder film in class. It amazes me how this assassination had such a profound effect on the world, something the author and illustrators highlight at the end of the book. We will never know what really happened, but it left a lasting impact on our country and still will for a long time to come.
