Audiobook review. Narrator: Gomez Pugh

Enjoyed this book but, because it's been a while since I read Spook Squad, I forgot who several of the characters and their stories were, like Jennifer Chance. I simply cannot recall what she did. I didn't feel like going back to the audiobook and trying to skim through it to jog my memory, so I just continued on with this one. It also didn't take me long to determine who the bad guy was either. But I like the main characters and Gomez Pugh's narration. I'm glad Crash is still around - he'd actually become my favorite character in this series after reading Skin After Skin.

It was... interesting. I personally don't like it when the plot get bigger and bigger. Oh here is a bad guy, who is behind this big secret organisaiton, but wait, it goes deeper!
Anyway, good read overall.

I don't know why I thought this is the last book in series. I actually read it and I saw that there is enough space left for series to continue so I thought that, maybe, it's the end of PsyCop series and begging of new one since Vic and Jacob are technically not working for police anymore- they are FPMP agents now. But JCP put my mind to rest. It's not that last book in series, but I do feel like it eases us into a new arc.
Hence, I kept thinking how it's fitting that both [b:Among the Living|5603414|Among the Living (PsyCop, #1)|Jordan Castillo Price|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1375991614s/5603414.jpg|5774782], first book in a PsyCop series and this one, open up with a go-away party. It's a small scene conveying that we've come a full circle with Vic. Some things are changed, and some... (like Vic being absolute awkward shite at parties) are the same.

So, Vic starting his new gig at FPMP went as you can imagine- he was anxious and baffled by the fact that his gift is a thing people in F-Pimp are admiring rather than being spooked by. But- and this is a noticeable change- he is dealing with everything so much better. In fact, he is doing amazing considering that somebody is killing agents, Jacob is on a lookout for a mole and his old nemesis is back. Dead Darla and Hardcore Vic are a hoot together and I hope to see more of her in future installments. Jacob is still ridiculously sexy and dreamy boyfriend I remember him to be.

This would be an absolute winner if not for the ridiculous mystery of the traitor. I was basically doing this while I was reading:

Spoiler
Vic: Who is the killer?
(Me:.. the new guy?)
Vic: It's not Agent A. So who can it be?
(Me:.. Well, the new guy has means and opportunity?)"
Vic and Jacob: It's not agent B either. But it's someone in the building.
(Me: Guys..?)
Vic and Jacob: Who on earth can it be?
(Me: But, but... New guy?)

Sigh.

So, all in all, good, but I read better from JCP.

And the final book in this series... Shees! I'm going to miss Vic and Jacob, and all ~sighs~
Vic is now working with the FPMP, Laura is his new boss and oh! look who is here too! His old frenemy from Camp Hell, Dead Darla!

One of the things I have loved more about this series is watching Vic change, adapt, and get a better understanding of himself and his past. This book is not an exception. While working in the death of his fellow agents Vic faces all those blank spots from his past and finally understands how different is working in a place when he's not a freak but a trusted and respected member of the organization.

A great story, as always. And I'm so willing to explore Vic's relationship with Darla! Those two are both powerful mediums but they approach is so different... I would love to see them working together :D

*sits and waits for more PsyCop*

OK, 5 for personal interaction and characters but, wow that mystery storyline was so obvious I couldn't believe it. Neither could Lara in the end but just because she points it out, doesn't make me swallow it any better. You could see the bad guy a mile away and no-one actually figures it out. He gives himself away! So 3 for the mystery storyline. And then, a cliffhanger? What for? Just to tick me off. Well 1 star dock for an incomplete story. I love this series and will continue but this one just wasn't up to par.
