What do you want me to say about this epic? An actual rollercoaster ride, it takes time to process that. Seriously. This is magnificent. It's superior. The characters, the story, the setting, the colours. Each panel is unique, it has a distinct style and colour to reflect the mood and the atmosphere. I'm dying to read the sequel.

Mehhh... Not what I was expecting. Others may love it but not the FEEL I thought I was gonna have. Marcus reminded me too much of Holden Caulfield.

This is one of those rare moments when the art style and the writing just blends seamless.

Beautiful illustrations with a very intriguing story! Along with unique and varying characters that are all morally gray.

Wow! Well, that was as f--ked up as I could have ever imagined.

So Lana Candor, the actress who plays Lara Jean in the Netflix Original To All The Boys I've Loved Before, is also set to star in the new Syfy TV show, Deadly Class. That's how I heard about the graphic novel.

Content Warnings: Racism, multiple usage of a homophobic slur, heavy drug use, graphic violence, blood, abusive relationship, hazing/bullying.

Suffice to say, the graphic novel is pretty dark. While I thought it was interesting, I absolutely do not recommend it. I personally enjoyed some aspects, but unless you don't mind that much...ahem...mature morbid content I can't seriously tell people to go read this.

I will say that this was surprisingly deep and even philosophical at times. I also liked the artwork. When there was an action scene, it was explosive and detailed and entertaining. There were parts of the storyline that had me busting out laughing but equally thinking, "What the f--k?"

I read the Afterword and apparently some of this is semi-autobiographical??? The author says that Phoenix, Arizona was pretty violent in the 80s and 90s and let's just say he saw some things. I thought it was interesting how he used art to process his not-so-great adolescent years. I didn't understand at first how anyone could come up with such sadistic concept, but uh, wow. Some of it's closer to home for him then I could possibly ever understand.

Points for anxiety representation and heck of a lot of diversity, I guess? (Note: This is not diverse in the same sense that you see growing in YA literature---I believe the characters are reflected as the creator(s) experienced them growing up).

Deadly Class was a super disturbing but weirdly engrossing read. That being said, I'm going to go watch something warm and fuzzy now. I feel like I need to cleanse my soul now. Bye.

Memorable Quotes:
- "Civility is just lying to people about your true feelings. Hiding for personal gain."
- "The only difference is...the dagger they put in your back is real."
- "Forgive my students. They forget there are occasions when being vicious only serves to make one look weak."
- "Morality is just comfort food---it holds no meaning outside of our minds."

Marcus is a street kid that is on the run from the cops one night. He receives some "help" from a girl and she takes him to a very special place.
A school that isn't just the ABC's.

Marcus doesn't have a whole lot of choices in life. He can either go back on the streets or sign up to become Assassin Kid. He goes with Assassin since all he wants to do is kill Ronald Reagan anyways.

Once in the school he finds out that typical teenagers are everywhere.
Mean kid cliques.

Normal class assignments:

Then he finds himself on a drug filled road trip to kill one of his new friends daddy.
Typical teenagey stuff right here.

Then throw in a sorta lovey triangle and LOTS of stabby!

Pure goodness.

I'm not sure about this one. I didn't dislike it enough to stop reading it, but I also don't want to read any more of the series.

V fun but tbh I only know like 2 characters’ names

Also !! I feel like u can make a character a rough bully guy ™ without so many homophobic slurs
