A book that is mediocre at its best. Nothing really happens during this novel. The character work and the plot are weak and the writing is not the best. There are also problematic elements such as pedophilia, substantial age gaps, teacher - student relationships. And judging by how the show and future books go the author doesn't care about these issues and even romanticizes them. Will not continue the series.

I may have abandoned the Clique series to read PLL, but it was totally worth it. There is something about the fall time and those four little liars that makes me feel super autumnal.
The first book is pretty much the first-ish episode of the series, but with so much more excitement and a lot more secrets. I can't remember if I ever finished this series, but I remember getting really far in so I can't wait to see what I remember, but mostly what I forgot.

Crying score: nope

The best kind of bad. I remember reading this back when I was about twelve to thirteen years old – I was obsessed with the show and wanted to read the books as well – but I ended up abandoning the book series somewhere along the way.

Reading it was very nostalgic, albeit very repetitive at times, since the TV show followed the plot pretty closely. It’s and easy and quick read and it pulls you in, even though it’s not the best written book out there.

I plan on finishing the book series this time.
