what self respecting gay would i be if i didn't read this book eventually. i greatly enjoyed the Iliad when i read it a few years back, and i do feel like having that baseline knowledge made me enjoy this book more.

im a sucker for tragedy what can i say. im not giving this book a full 5 stars, and im not really sure i can put a finger on whats missing for me, but it is just missing a bit of that Sauce that would make i perfect.

Patroclus is loveable and kind and tragic, and Achilles is amazing and frustrating and aaaahhgghgg

there is much more i can say but i will simply wipe the tears from my eyes and end it there because my brain cant form a coherent sentence

I'd recommend going into this blind! Unfortunately, I had just finished Stephen Fry's Troy, thus I knew all the main plot points very well.

I did really enjoy it in the beginning, but at the end I stoped. It was to much fighting and I got bored, sadly. I’m tired and I think me being stressed to read didn’t help

I thoroughly enjoyed this story in preparation of reading the Iliad, translation by Emily Wilson. I was expecting it to be more sad because I saw so many reviews of people crying but didn’t miss not!

I was honestly expecting it to devastate me more. Very enjoyable book, I was always wanting more. Loses points because I hated Achilles in the last third so much I lost a lot of emotion around him dying.

After being recommended it so long, I’ve finally read the Song of Achilles. Though I enjoyed Miller’s writing style and twist on the Greek mythos, it seemed to drag towards the middle of the book, which made this decent sized read feel as long as the Odyssey (might just be a personal bias, as I’ve had to read that story far too many times for school)
Overall though, a very interesting and heartbreaking read, with an ‘open’, but satisfying end.
