The Abolition of Man & The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis

This is philosophy/nonfiction so it gets no star-rating from me, but I would NOT recommend. While it had some interesting concepts, I was mostly bored.

The Abolition of Man is a little harder to follow than the Problem of Pain,if only because it feels more relevant to specific situations in Lewis's time, but still a good lecture against stoicism. I love the phrase "men without chests" to describe people who treat sentimentality and emotion as a human deficiency. The Great Divorce is a more typical metaphorical theological snapshot of Heaven and the Human Condition.

Love both of these, though the Abolition of Man makes me very depressed re: modern education.

The language was a big heavy for a listen, but there were a few pieces that stood out in each. I tend to think of Heaven as a place where everything will be perfect, including me. Lewis' conception is probably more realistic, and the idea that we'll have to choose to let go of the things that are holding us back even there resonates with me. In the Abolition of Man the suggestion that shrinking the heart does not necessary make the head larger, just that it looks larger in comparison is interesting as well.

Wow, this was great. I will have to read abolition of man again cause there was a ton there. I decided to to a quick overview read so I can come back later and have a baseline.
