This book picks up right where Killing November ends so if you are able to refresh your memory of that one before you start it would be ideal. I did appreciate the fast plot with plenty of mental and physical situations for November and her crew to work through, but by the end of the book it really feels like there would have been a faster and simpler to route to the same place.

MAYBE 3 stars just for Inez and some of the little plot twists and everything, but I am so annoyed that Emily is referenced so often for absolutely no reason. She’s used as some kind of representation of November’s life before the academy and also has very inconsistent character traits, just being whatever it is that makes November most nostalgic in that moment. Otherwise, I think the book is good for the audience it’s written for- because I’m sure it’s not for anyone over 17- and I love a good dark academia vibe, but I was a little disappointed after the first book finally won me over.

I loved every twist thrown into November’s journey in this conclusion. The world of Strategia is so immersive, and navigating it with her is a fun but suspenseful ride. Friends and family come in many types, and November gets to learn this in a very unique and dangerous way.

I didn’t really like how November’s fighting kept changing throughout the book. At some points she couldn’t do much while at other times she could suddenly fight really well.
