good 3.5* read

It is a story of late teen Kieran living his life in the late 90's.
How he interacts with his friends and family. How he goes about embracing the fact that he is gay and then learning to be that person and telling others.
I loved the self centred concentration that only teens can have - the world revolves round them and parents are to be embarrassed about (I am living this now from the parental side!!). And reminded me of my self-absorbed time in the early 80's.
It is a shock reminder of just how odd the 90's were too - though personally I cant remember the platform trainers - maybe was too old to get them then.
I thought the writing was light and easy, some short flashbacks were included but chapter headers gave headsup if that was going on.
The characters were varied and lovable, comical, annoying and scary (just hope I'm not too much like Kieran's mum).
I think this is part of a three book series, and covers Kieran finding his new, post school posse of friends and the build up to the big trip to Australia (with Mum Dad and brother now tagging along!!).
Dont read if you are expecting big romances, lots of sex but for an amusing slice of life read with a definite British flavour, go ahead!
