3.5⭐️ I just love Ruta Sepetys's writing. Unfortunately, this one was not my favourite, and fell a bit short for me, when compared to her other books. It was still a well written story, but just not for me!

I enjoyed this one! It wasn’t what I was expecting, it’s a more lighter tone than most of her other books which I appreciated. I loved the New Orleans setting. I loved Josie as a main character and her strength and character. I loved the found family aspect in this that was my favorite part. It was interesting to see this time period and the topic of prostitution.

I’m somewhat disappointed, having gone in to this book with expectations set by her masterpiece, Salt to the Sea. I know Ruta Sepetys is technically a YA author, but this one was too YA for me. The character arcs didn’t go in directions I was interested in, and I felt like there wasn’t enough resolution with Jodie’s mom, or with Patrick. The audio narrator was good, though.

Un man dažbrīd pamatīgi radās aizdomas par to, vai uzrakstītais tiešām atbilst 50`to gadu Ņuorleānas dzīvei.
