I received this book as part of a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.

This book was definitely a mix of liking and disliking for me. It's really difficult to review a memoir, it's someone's life experience so I guess I'll try to stay away from that except to say that for a large part of the book I felt like, when talking about the LGBT community, Harty was almost exclusively talking about gay men and lesbians, with little to no mention of bisexual, intersex, trans, asexual or gender queer people at all, to name a few.

I really liked the parts of the book that were personal, describing personal experience and relationships, so in a sense I enjoyed the autobiographical parts the most. However I found some of the speeches, articles or Facebook notes to be preachy and self indulgent at points. When talking in a personal, conversational tone I enjoyed it much more. I also wish there had been more humour similar to the blogpost 'The Secret Queer Ring', which was hilarious!

I will be donating this book to the queer library in my college's LGBT society.
