In 1993, Marie Gesto disappeared after leaving a Los Angeles supermarket. Harry Bosch worked the case, but couldn't solve it. Now, thirteen years later, with the Gesto file still on his desk in the Open-Unsolved Unit, Harry gets a call from the DA. A man accused of killing two other women says he knows what happened to Marie, and is willing to tell where she's buried, if he can make a deal. Harry has waited a long time to find Marie's killer, but when things go south, he has to race against time to save another woman's life.
I've read a few Michael Connelly books over the years, and this one is pretty standard. I am pretty tired of the "good cop goes rogue for reasons" trope, though. I'm pretty sure that if a real detective broke as many rules as Bosch does, he'd have been fired before he could explain his reasons. If you like Connelly's books, then you'll like this one.
