My first BB book and what a great story. Recommended to me from Facebook group and glad I followed the recommendation. Never a dull moment and plenty to keep the reader occupied and interested. Now I want to read another of her stories - this one was great.

Well I'm a bit surprised that this managed to get a nod for the Booker longlist, but it certainly is good fun. I read the final 350 pages in a single day, and let me tell you...that day flew. Sure, I didn't really feel much emotional investment in any of the characters, and the ending is both a bit abrupt and strangely off-tone. It's otherwise all very cleverly put together though, and Bauer managed to string together a whole bunch of seemingly disparate plot lines more or less seamlessly by the story's conclusion. Crime novels aren't generally my thing, but I very much enjoyed reading this one. Recommended.

Who doesn't love a good thriller? Who doesn't love the adrenalin rushing through when you are hooked onto a page-turner. In many ways, Snap is a fantastic offering, that keeps you on the edge of your seat. But is it the best thriller I've read in my life? Afraid not. Yet, as I devour thrillers on a regular basis, I can't help but place this one in the upper half of my list.

What works for Snap is the writing – simple, no nonsense style that is completely believable. The story itself is intriguing. And while the mystery might become clearer well before the end, you finish the book with great satisfaction.

This book is steeped in the gritty realism of the darker aspects of life. A real page turner but with many surprises along the way

I honestly can't believe this was longlisted for the Man Booker prize. Seriously?
The setting and characrers were okay, nothing special to be honest. But that ending was just so dissappointing. I mean, nothing happens in the end! No retribution and no justice. There's no tension throughout the plot, just nothing.

Basically if you want to read a crime/mystery/thriller novel that leaves you on the edge of your seat, then look elsewhere, because this book isn't it. There wasn't even a twist, you can pretty much figure out who did it 200 pages in.

The only character that snapped here was me- the reader- by throwing this book across the room.

A damn fine crime novel. I loved the clever construction and the smoothly handled reveals. While maintaining all the tropes of the genre, Bauer manages to inject some excitement and originality. But it’s not the best crime novel of the year – that honour goes to Megan Abbott. It’s also not a Booker Prize worthy novel in my opinion; the prose is not at that level. But it’s hugely readable and captivating and I’m glad to have been introduced to Bauer’s work and will mine her backlist.
