This was fun overall. I am curious about what's going on. However, the strange plural first person/third person narration was extremely distracting to me. It's as though it's being narrated by all of the girls at the same time but none of them. Perhaps that gets explained later in the series, but it kept pulling me out of the story as my brain tried to figure out who was talking.

A reread from childhood. Holds up solidly, interesting gender dynamics.

The Huit octuplets find themselves sans parents and receiving mysterious notes that encourage them to each find a power and a gift in order to figure out what's happened to their parents. The gimmicky setup might have appeal with some kids, but the story wasn't funny or compelling enough to encourage me to sift through the conversations of all the interchangeable sisters.

Hilarious opening to a series about eight sisters whose parents disappear and they need to find them. Great fun, you can see a pattern of how the books will be written, but the actual story drives you along. Quite short, without any padding and simply told, but a lot of fun to be had with this.

The story was alright and had some funny parts, but seemed very derivative. Kids with missing/dead parents are so common in books (Harry Potter, Charlie Bone, Sisters Grimm, Kane Chronicles, Series of Unfortunate Events, ...) that you feel like saying, "Not again." And then there is the popular story line of the characters finding out they have powers or gifts (see first list). I understand that these common elements will probably make this a series kids will try since it reminds them of those other books - but I really hope there is a clever twist somewhere along the way and it doesn't stay so predictable.

I think I would have loved this as a kid - a little bit of mystery, a little excitement and adventure, a lot of kids living alone and sisterly problem solving - even though as an adult I find a lot of the choices perplexing (why is it written in the first person plural?). Consider it a half step up for readers of Rainbow Fairies and Magic Tree House.

I really wanted to like this book. I love the art in it and 8 sisters who have to solve a mystery sounds great. I just didn't really like it until the end and if my daughter hadn't wanted to finish it I most likely would have stopped just a few chapters in. I am debating if I should take the next one home for her.

ANNIE’S ADVENTURES is the start to a great new series by authors Lauren Baratz-Logsted and Greg Logsted, along with their daughter, Jackie. The entire family helped write the story and come up with ideas, and there’s definitely something in the story for everyone. The writing was very witty and full of jokes for all ages.

Each of the Sisters 8 has a unique personality and each one is clever and funny. I can’t wait to find out what each of their powers will turn out to be! THE SISTERS 8 would make a great read-aloud for families to share together. The first two books are out now, with more books to be released next year. Readers of all ages will enjoy the mystery mixed with humor and will be eagerly waiting to read about the next sister in line. (I know I am!)
