A Ship of Bones and Teeth

Author: Karina Halle

⭐️ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🌶️ Rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

🔞 Intended for 18+ readers, as with most darker romance book, this one might not be for everyone;  be sure to check trigger and content warning before reading.

You may need to sink your teeth into this one if you like dark little mermaid retelling, pirates, touch her a die vibes, found family, Villain gets the girl tropes, Forced Proximity and enemies to lovers.

Mermaids (Syrens), Pirates? In a villain gets the girl little mermaid retelling? What dark romance lover wouldn’t be swooning (hopefully there’s a Swoon worthy pirate to catch you) over this book. Ramsay (Bones) Battista and Maren’s banter was top notch, filled with witty quips, tension and all the right undercurrents. Maren was fierce, sarcastic and wholly entertaining.

The Syrens were a fun take on the typical mermaid story and the twists and turns in the book sent me on a tumble through the waves I never saw coming. Don’t even get me started on the Brethren - you’ll want to know what I’m talking about, trust me.

DNF (skipped to final chapter) @ 74% I just got bored with this book and didn’t feel invested in the characters or the story

Plot sounded interesting, but poorly executed.  Started off alright, than I lost interest.

The crew side characters were forgettable.

Can't believe this is the same author as River of Shadows!  I loved that book.  I had high hopes for this one.

I think if they really focused a bit on side characters and maybe cut out a few unnecessary sex scenes it would be an overall better reading experience. I also wish we got a bit of the forced proximity trope on the island.  It was enjoyable though
