If anyone asked me for an adventurous book, I would throw this book into their hands so fast.

With adrenaline-soaked action, a lovable and diverse cast of characters, and the perfect balance of heart, humor, and magical pirate quests, THE ADVENTURES OF AMINA AL-SIRAFI is a book to adore. I'd set sail with this crew anywhere. I'll be keeping my eyes glued to the horizon as I wait for the departure of the next voyage.

CW: violence, dead body (graphic), blood & gore, religious bigotry & imperialism, torture, imprisonment, animal death, decapitation, insects, misogyny, alcohol consumption, slavery, war (past), emesis

Despite somewhat 1D characters and dialogue, it's a fun adventure ride that is hard to stop once it gets going.

Oh, I loved this and I knew I would after adoring the Daevabad trilogy so much, but wow.

The format is incredible, especially on audiobook. The narrator leans away from the mic and sorta muffles the asides so it really sounds like shes turning over her shoulder to talk to Jamal, which was just so charming. The delivery was fantastic and I already loved Amina so much right away. The cast and crew were interesting and fun and I can't wait to get to know them more over the course of future books. And while I know the whole "one last job" thing is a fun trope, I don't think I've ever seen it used with someone who retired to be a mom and has to balance her new and old life quite like this. Getting the crew back together and actually acknowledging that they have been doing different things for a decade and have a lot more aches and pains these days was refreshing and at times, hilarious.

As always, Chakraborty does an amazing job of making her world lush and built-out in a way that gorgeously blends history and myth. It was really cool to see some mythological characters and creatures that were also in the Daevabad books portrayed with new eyes. Between the ports and towns and mix of cultures and people, it was a gorgeously vibrant world to explore. I loved getting to see it through the eyes of a salty middle-aged adventurer who also happens to be a very tall MILF with a penchant for dressing flamboyantly, taking risks, and enjoying more than her fair share of, uh, pirate booty.

What an absolute delight. I cannot wait for more.
