I received an e-ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

Rating : 4.25

Review : NO SPOILERS

I loved returning to Josephine Angelini's world of demigods and houses. Daphne has always been one of the most conflicting and interesting characters in books 1-3 and to read more about her and Ajax was amazing. I did expect certain characters to behave in a certain way and when I got something completely different, I was really surprised and loved the book more. Few of my own idiosyncrasies aside, this book is a must read for all Greek Myth fans and I cannot wait for Timeless next year

Oh my goodness! This book surpassed any (high) expectations I had! Reading this book felt like chatting with an old friend. I would give this book 10 out of 5 stars if I could :)

I really enjoyed getting to read part of Daphne's story. She's a mysterious character who makes questionable decisions in the first three Starcrossed books. In this book, I was happy that I finally got to learn about her backstory. I also loved seeing her relationships with Ajax and Harlow. This book made me feel really bad for Daphne's childhood, but I'm glad that she got to experience some happiness in her life. :)

Ajax really was like the sun in the Delos family and in Daphne! I loved seeing the Delos family dynamics in the past, and I was glad that I could learn about his personality and life philosophy.

Overall, I can't wait to read more of Daphne and Ajax's story! There's a cameo in the book (no spoilers about this) that I was definitely surprised by, and it makes me look forward to reading more of Helen's story as well! If you're a fan of the Starcrossed series, you definitely won't want to miss out on this book!

I was lucky enough to receive a signed ARC from Josephine Angelini, but this did not influence my rating or review.

Positively surprised by this one. TBH, the first third feels a bit rushed and boring because it is so similar to Helen's story but different to Daphne she got a lot more time getting to know Lucas. Of course, it was nice to see the parallels, especially because we know about the Fates and recurring cycles from the other book series, but I was sceptical that we really needed this book. But after reading the last two-thirds, I have to say: yes! There was a lot more to explore in this world than I thought. And Daphne actually gets her own story and her own fight. It was not a copy of Starcrossed any more and really entertaining to read. I also started to understand her a lot better. If you were a fan of the original series you should definitely read it and I´m so happy we are getting more books in this series.

I am a huge fan of the original trilogy that Scions is a prequel for. I loved the starcrossed series so much growing up. So I did go into this one with pretty big expectations.

Scions is a prequel to the Starcrossed series. It is set in 1993 in New York. Now as a 90s kid this brought back a lot of nostalgia, which the book did in general because of my love for the previous books.

It did take me a few tries to get into this one. I don’t feel like I connected with these characters and this story the same way I did to the previous ones but it has been a long time since I read those.

The nostalgia was real, the story was decent, but I never fully connected hence the 3 stars. It wasn’t a bad read but it also didn’t live up to my expectations. Obviously this is just my own personal opinion and even though I was a bit underwhelmed I do plan to read the other upcoming books at some point.

**Thank you to the publisher for the review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own. **
