I really liked the book, it’s more a fantasy than a romantic book. The book is well written, though it took me some time to catch up with it. The story has some unexpected turns and I enjoyed them!
I would recommend it!

I don't really know how I feel about this book. I enjoyed the lore and religion of it and the political side of the plot, but I hated the romance.

I hated both love interests and basically everyone except for Amelie. I enjoyed Rachelle as a main character also.

I also didn't really see this as a Red Riding Hood retelling. I see the bits that were inspired by the fairytale, but it was something entirely different.

I do really like stories were a forest is evil.

I had originally thought this was part of the [b:Cruel Beauty|15839984|Cruel Beauty|Rosamund Hodge|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1371652590l/15839984._SY75_.jpg|21580669] series but it turns out this is a standalone. Either way, I am glad I picked this up because this was a strong fantasy-romance hybrid which is inspired by Red Riding Hood.

This author has a distinctive voice which helps distinguish these fairy tale retelling from others that I’ve read before. The fantasy elements are interesting (especially the use of a more obscure fairy tale - The Girl Without Hands). It reminded me of Hansel and Gretel in all its dark and spooky glory. The book is worth picking up just for that vibe I think.

The pace is a little slow and there was a love triangle which actually worked here. Our heroine was special and a little YA but I loved how prickly and angry she was. The scale was surprisingly small which kept the plot tightly focused and allowed a pretty good romance to develop.

Armand, however, was fantastic. I loved the fact that he lost his hands and is a bit nerdy and scholarly and quiet. He wasn’t not traditionally aggressive as a prince to the rescue, but neither was he passive and weak. I really liked that.

4.5/5. I had high expectations for this book because of Cruel Beauty and I did not disappoint. Crimson Bound is the retelling of Red Riding Hood. I love the world and the re-telling of the childhood favourites with a mythological twist. I thought it did lack some material and didn't follow the story of Red Riding Hood well. I thought the ending was good but not great. I thought it could have ended differently. Recommended to fans of Cruel Beauty. This was a bit more trippy than Cruel Beauty.

I like the story. But I don't think the ending was satisfactory. I have a lot of questions still remaining. I think it was unjust the fact that Eric is gone just like that.
