Not bad! I'm not quite digging the "Thrawn trilogy" as much as everyone else seems to, but it's not bad at all.
Okay, bad things first. I wasn't particularly interested in the whole Dark Force fleet thing. Also, the Dark Jedi C'baoth is not quite an interesting character to me either. Luke saw through him pretty darn quickly, so as much as it's a good idea to show the kind of jedi Luke doesn't want to become, I don't think it was necessarily overly necessary. I really kind of wish it was just Thrawn and the Empire as antagonists. And so far at least, Thrawn isn't quite as impressive as a villain as I was expecting. Canon Thrawn just seems so much cooler to me at this point. And as for the political opponent of Ackbar, the Bothan Fay'lya? I just really wasn't interested in that part of the story whatsoever.
Anyway, complaints aside, Zahn captures the characterizations of Han, Lando, and Luke almost perfectly. Leia is a little less well done, but still good. I think they really seem like extensions of how there characters act and speak in the original trilogy. While this era is overall less romantic than the movies, with the rebellion over as their government now has legitimacy, it is still fun to see the adventures they go on. And I am just so glad that Lando is actively involved, and not ignored like he was in the Sequel trilogy. I also love Mara Jade, I just always want more with her.
This was the first non-prequel Legends book I read (besides Heir to the Empire) and while I like this era less (I'm kind of partial to canon/ prequel Legends) it is a great start to the Extended Universe and I can see how important it was in Star Wars history.

I was shocked to find out the middle of this trilogy was just as good as the first (in my opinion, at least). I quickly got through this book, cherishing every page. I was immensely excited to read the finale. This book has some thrilling action sequences, and Joruus C'baoth really shines in this one.

The second book in the Thrawn trilogy was the perfect book to finish over vacation. I haven't read much in the form of Star Wars Expanded Universe, but if this sheds any light into it, I'm sure I'll be reading more.
