I believe this book started out at the perfect intensity. Then it started to get very boring but picked up and the ending was such a cliffhanger. I'm so into these types of books. It was very intriguing and made me want to actually read the next book. And the main character of this book is so strong and such an individual and she thinks that she doesn't need anyone's help, That she's going to do all of this on her lonesome. than she meets this wonderful group of friends they don't hit it off right away but they eventually grow on each other. This book is really about friendship and how your friends can help you through so much no matter where you come from, who or what your family is because all this group of friends are so different and have special individual gifts and personalities that they all just come together and that's what I really like about a book, That you can read it and get into the book and meet these people and really understand who they are and what they want out of life and these kids are so interesting and I just can't wait to read the next one.

Finally! An author has brought the ass kicking heroine found in Adult Urban Fantasy to YA! From the moment that you meet Ari you will never question her ability to take care of herself and Kelly Keaton's new dystopian/supernatural world will leave you wanting ten more books right away!

I'll admit this right here and now. I was not excited to read this book. Not just this book, but pretty much any supernatural/paranormal debuts. Lots of them seem to be uninteresting or unoriginal to me me lately. But from the moment I read the first page of Darkness Becomes Her I was hooked. I was excited. And I stayed that was for the rest of the book!

The world that Keaton has created in this book was, simply put, fantastic! I bet you have never read anything like it! It was a little dystopian-ish--with New 2 being the destroyed and rebuilt New Orleans bought and guarded by the watchful eyes of The Novem--but it's also different because it is filled with vampires, shape shifters, witches, and just about every creature that you can think of, but this is not a vampire book! No, not even close. This book is the start of a series that I think will be brilliant!

This book could have been awesome based on the world alone, but it is also filled to the brim with intriguing characters. Ari, the main character is everything you could ask for! She doesn't take crap from anyone! She's independent and she might just kick your ass....She carries a gun! A GUN! I loved her! All the minor characters and the love interest, Sebastian were also terrific!

Have I convinced you yet? Are you placing a order for this book in another tab right now? You should be! Unless..you know....you don't like action packed, original, good books.....Read it!

I really wanted to like this book. It started strong, but then just got . . . weird?

First, I like Greek mythology. I like the supernatural. However, when a writer tries to mix vampires, voodoo, and the plain freaky with ancient Greek gods, it gets chaotic. It was like Rick Riordan meets the world L. J. Smith but it the worst possible way.

Then there was the I-am-madly-in-love-with-you-after-one-whole-day romance. That doesn't happen in the real world. It was so incredibly over the top rushed. Ari was supposed to a strong character. Enter Sebastian and she becomes a love sick schoolgirl. It was kind of embarrassing.

Yet another YA romance trash. It started off as promising, right until ~40%, when it suddenly became instant-romance. I was willing to cut the story some slack until then, because it isn't that bad, but the book it's as if the author has suddenly decided that she wanted to write a romance book, and all of a sudden our protagonist is overrun by emotions. "Oh my god, he's so cute, I'll just faint here." This happens in like every second paragraph.

So if you're not into this sort of thing, then I'd strongly recommend that you stay away.

One of the best sci fi young adult books I've read in a long, long time. Good writing and not a completely predictable story line. The main character was smart and acted like a normal human. I never once wanted to throw the book across the room because she was doing something completely stupid. (That's high praise for this genre. Part of love is acknowledging and accepting weakness and I've accepted that most YA books I end up wanting to throw across the room a couple times a book.)

Like the last book I reviewed I picked this book up during vacation back in July of 2012 and it sat on my shelf until recently (I really should stop doing this) and once again I really wish I had started it right away. This book had mystery (well if you don't know Greek Mythology very well it's a mystery) and a little bit of romance and even some kick-butt fighting.

This book takes place in New Orleans, only it isn't the New Orleans we know. After the hurricanes that destroyed the city the rich families of the city bought it from the United States and created their own place where they had control which was then renamed New 2. Only this isn't a normal city anymore.

This whole book we follow a girl named Aristanae around. She gets into a lot of trouble while trying to find out information about her mother and her father. People are after her, extremely powerful people who she doesn't even know and all she wants to do is find out why she's so different from everyone else, with her silver hair and teal eyes. When she goes to New 2 she meets a whole cast of interesting characters from the swoon worthy Sebastian Lamarliere to little Violet with her pointed teeth who carries around an alligator named Pascal and Crank who is 12 years old and drives a mail truck.

The characters are all very likeable. Ari was kick-butt and while her search for who she really is took a paranormal turn, she is a very relatable character. Sebastian Lamarliere is distant and aloof at first but quickly opens up and we discover that aside from his obvious attractiveness he is a really caring and intelligent person. Violet was my absolute favorite character, she was so quirky from the alligator who is her friend to the fact that she wears mardi gras masks all the time. She trusts Ari completely and even fights to save her.

If you're a fan of Greek Mythology then this book is definitely for you. Even if you know the myth this story is based on you will have a quick, fun read that will leave you wanting the next installment in this series.
