I sadly did not enjoy this one as much as I was hoping. I do have to say that the discussions in this are good and very important and I enjoyed those. I did enjoy the plot of this book and the family dynamics I do have to say nothing really creepy started happening until about 60% of the way through so that was kind of a bummer I didn’t see something coming so that was cool and I do have to say the last 15% I really liked.  I just found this to be boring at first and I know she’s an addict and I know weed helped her with her anxiety but hearing about it every other sentence was driving me crazy. I really liked Sammy as a character as well. He was probably my favorite part of the book. I think I also didn’t like this because the main character was very unlikable at times and that was hard like I understood her side of things but it was just too much of at times.

The narrator lives with intense anxiety, particularly surrounding her family's experience with bedbugs. The author does an excellent job of portraying the all-consuming nature of intense anxiety spirals, including panic attacks.

My biggest gripe is the ending. I would have liked to see what happened directly after the events of the last chapter,  when

The Foundation is finally exposed

. Maybe the author left it ambiguous because in real life, those with money, power and privilege usually win.

This was a 5 until the ending! It’s a great book that I couldn’t put down. It was mysterious. You can’t tell if the house is haunted or it’s just in the unreliable narrators mind. There’s a corrupt corporation to take into account too. Also a family that doesn’t totally trust each other. Its fantastic and then it just…ends! There’s no resolution. Which is true of life but not how I wanted the book to conclude! So that bums me out but I still highly recommend this book ❤️

I really liked this one, the ending twist is one of my favourites, and I really liked Mari as a character. a lot of this book reminded me of growing up just outside Detroit, with the mentions of things like coney dogs, devils night, and pop. makes me miss my hometown just a smidge. honestly, my only real issue is how abrupt the ending feels. but overall I'd definitely recommend this one for the spooky season!

Wow! That was quite a ride. Half-way through I wasn’t sure this was the right book for me but wow did it pick up and pay off. I loved the themes and messages about gentrification, criminalization of marijuana, unjust Incarceration, and so much more. The creepiness was good but not over the top and not gory. It’s not all wrapped up in a bow at the end which feels real.

One of the best YA books I’ve read this year and maybe in my top 10 overall. I don’t read a lot of horror so it’s hard to know what to compare it to but I really liked it.

This was good. I liked the character development from Marigold. I didn't like the ending. It felt like it needed an epilogue at the least. There were also some parts that felt rushed, but overall the pacing wasn't too bad. I was hooked on this story and had to keep reading to find out what was going on and what was going to happen. I just want to know what happened after all the chaos. I need some type of closure.
