Royally Charming
Avery Flynn does it again with this hot and steamy yet charming fish out of water tale. Nick is a great book boyfriend and I recommend this book to everyone who wants a fun fairy tale of a story set in a little village in England. Couldn't put it down!

It's a classic american man has to accept his place as an earl in a village in Yorkshire scenario...... happens to the best of us......
Nick, the main man, is literally one yeehaw away from whipping out his guns and flannels. He cites his 'american liberty' as a reasoning for his behaviours several times. He meets a Yorkshire woman who is prim and proper and there is romance and steamy bits etc etc u know the sitch. Tbh it's not really my sort of thing at all so realistically not surprising that i didn't enjoy it..... but i didn't manage to finish lincoln in the bardo and yet i finished this so what does that say about George Saunders? It says that Lincoln in the bardo is pretentious unreadble shite!!!! Anyway I digress
I listened to this on audio and for some reason the woman has constant shifts in accents..... one minute she is queens english chelsea raaah yas dahling and the next minute she's like oo arr wurrs meh cuppa then duck...... happy to stan an impersonations queen but ultimately i was just confused. Also Nick sounded like Batman (the Christian Bale one).
Aside from the romance there is a subplot where Nick (who is incidentally the mastermind behind DUSTER SLIPPERS) is trying to invent some kind of elite bionic dog collar and i very much struggled to get into this storyline. I could not tell you what the collar's purpose was other than being robotic in some way. Could he not have been inventing something a bit more...cool? Glamorous? Sexy? Although I suppose it could be sexy if ur into that. It culminates with him cracking the problem and succeeding in inventing his techy dog collar and she falls into his incredibly smart and flannel-clad arms and they dance to 500 miles by the proclaimers. Literally.
If u are into this kind of thing then maybe look at all the reviews cause some people did find it fun and sweet but for me....no. Although it did make me laugh

It's a fun opposites attract, fish out of water romcom.
Lots of hilarious moments when the two cultures clash. I *loved* Nick's horror at the English dating show that was on regular TV, I've seen it, it's definitely interesting!
I fell in love with Nick and Brooke aka Lady Lemons straight away. Nick's laid back, who cares attitude that hides alot of hurt and Brooke who is torn between what's 'proper' and her tendency to be sassy and pushy.
Together they help eachother find the place where they are loved and belong.
@averyflynn has given us two strong, well developed characters and a host of supporting characters who range from cranky to quirky.
A really fun read that's hard to put down.

Trash! But Fun British Trash!
Okay, the third person romance took me a little bit to get used to, especially having dual POV with one narrator just switching his accents (which was hilarious by the way.)
It's good! It's not at all serious! It's fun! It's smut for smut! Ladies, Gentlemen, Enbies, and Heathens, we have certifiable beautiful trash.

Vor dem Lesen habe ich ein paar negative Rezensionen zum Buch gelesen und muss zugeben, dass ich das schade finde.
Auf mich haben beide total sympathisch gewirkt und sie waren immer für einen spontanen und lockeren Schlagabtausch zu haben, was sie sehr dynamisch gemacht hat.
Außerdem haben einige angemerkt, dass viel geflucht wird? Das kann ich auch nicht wirklich verstehen, da es sich echt im Rahmen gehalten hat und einfach der Charme von Nick war. Es hat ihn jugendlich und authentisch wirken lassen, finde ich.
Also ich kann die Kritik nicht nachvollziehen, aber wie heißt es so schön? Für jeden Leser gibt es andere Bücher. Andernfalls wäre die Auswahl sehr bescheiden.
Ich für meinen Teil bin echt froh, dass ich dem Buch eine Chance gegeben habe!

Summary: After an upsetting diagnosis, the MMC's estranged grandfather, an earl, orders his secretary, the FMC, to track down the MMC and whip him into shape to take over their ancestral responsibilities. Meanwhile, the FMC's past drama puts some pressure on their budding relationship.
Stats: CR - leaning romcom, M/F, part of a series, stands entirely alone, open door.
Notes: I'm not a big rom com lover, but this one balanced the plot, reality and humour pretty well. I think the main characters were clearly built out of modern romance lover requests (he's gentle-ish, he unironically reads fantasy romance, he asks about "how to do sex" for her, both partners share control of their sexual encounters, she's confident in her sexuality and into sex, they both go to the bathroom and clean up/pee afterwards, little things like that). It doesn't do a lot for me, but I think a lot of readers look for those kinds of characters. The setting is a little England but make it Disneyland - very kitschy, very twee. The narration is quite good - the author or narrator did make the FMC very posh though, while the rest of her family has a heavy Yorkie accent, which is a little odd, but not a real complaint. The crisis was a little dumb and rushed.

Royal Bastard was a wonderful read that drew me in from the start. As American inventor Nick travels to England and the home of his grandfather the Earl of Englefield for one reason, and one reason only, and that is to tell the Earl where he can stick his title. And I was really excited to see this story was set in England. But admittedly I was also a little nervous as sometimes authors can mangle the words we Brits speak or at least regularly use words we wouldn't. But I can safely say on this aspect Avery Flynn knocked it out of the park, and I could really tell she had visited the area this book is set in, although the village itself is fictional. The characters felt super authentic as did the language, although some were really missing that Yorkshire twang. But certainly they were all eccentric, welcoming, and delightful and I loved that; and the plot really drew me in. As did the main characters Brooke and Nick, who is understandably reluctant to be in England and anywhere near the man who rejected him and treated his mother so badly. And whilst this story had some emotional issues running through it, it was also sweet, entertaining and one hundred percent engaging, and genuinely I was charmed throughout, especially with the epilogue, which is why I would happily recommend it to others.
