Writing this through my tears. It was so well written, so heart-wrenchingly real. Even though these women are fictional, I can see the thousands and thousands of real women who suffered yet saved lives.
BTW, the way she kept the flashback mysterious until the end??? 😩😭

An absolutely incredible book from beginning to end. I was extremely emotional; I often felt what the main characters did along with them. While I could never possibly understand what they were going through to its core, I hurt when they hurt, I was apprehensive throughout the book as they were, etc. I have always been fascinated with historical fiction books though I’ve found myself drawn mostly to WWII books. That said, I absolutely loved this book and how considerately detailed it was given the heavy and heartbreaking topics that Kristin Hannah had to describe.

This book had a compelling storyline and was utterly filled with sadness. There were details written specifically about children in the book’s setting of WWII France that were heart wrenching and I honestly had to skim past some of it as a new mom. I couldn’t read the book fast enough simply to know if there was any hope or redemption at the end. I would say there was redemption in the end, but the devastation that occurs in the story and to the characters outweighs the hurried redemptive ending.

Kristin Hannah's "The Nightingale" weaves a captivating story of love, sacrifice, and resilience. It’s both raw and thought-provoking throughout, especially poignant when read in November- a time of reflection on the courage of those who both served and lived through wars. The story had a slow start, but my initial reservations were shattered as the truly moving narrative unfolded. Be prepared for a tearful ending. A must-read that earns a heartfelt 4.5 stars.
