I’ve been wanting to read this book for years now, and I finally got around to it. This is the best book i’ve ever read, and coming from someone who has been in a depressive episode for a couple of months now, this book really spoke to me and lifted me up. I feel like I changed person in the three days it took me to read this book.

My first time rereading this since the first time when I was probably around Melinda’s (the protagonist) age. I remember really liking it then and it’s even more devastating now with time and experience. The claustrophobia of the mind and your own silence.

While I’d like to think society has grown a bit since Speak was first published, I’m glad it still exists and can maybe provide validation and healing to those who need it. Does anyone else remember the movie with a young Kristen Stewart? Maybe I’ll pay that a visit too.

very quick read. I read it for the first time when I was in high school. I was going through my own hard time that year and found Melinda relatable in a lot of ways. Now I reflect on it and see how Anderson really encapsulated that feeling of being a young girl, grieving and feeling alone.
