This book is eye opening in what we expect holy spirit to be and how a lot of us are just getting crumbs of it and not receiving the whole thing. It opens your eyes also to churches that have just become mainstream and rule over services a instead of letting God have the control, they have control.

Absolute treasure of a book. Has marked me, no matter where I’ve been spiritually since the first time I’ve read it, to really want to spend my life chasing after God, at all costs and in all my humanity. It’s that Psalm 27:4 one-thing-I-desire kind of life that Tenney so charge-fully narrates, ministers, and exhorts each reader to go after.

I started reading this book because I wanted to get the prespective of people who are devoted to God.I grew up in a Christian home so I wanted to strengthen my bond and relationship with God. This book helped me to understand some stuff about the kind of relationship with God You should aspire to have.

DNF stopped at chapter 3. It lost my interest. Book started out with story of God’s presence being filled at the church that it moved the pastor approximately 10 feet from pulpit. Then follow up chapters seemed to say that today most churches don’t experience that because people aren’t that hungry for God. I agreed with him saying people looking to crystals and psychics are most likely looking for God. And how an experience with God can change you. But I disagree with experience having to be supernatural. Sometimes just reflecting on your life before Christ is enough

We read this as a part of my Women's Ministry group. I really found that a lot of this spoke to me and the state of the church universal and with myself and my own worship. I am encouraged to re-evaluate on how I will modify my personal worship so that I can stop focusing so much on doing programs and spend more time in prayer and study. I would definitely recommend this to anyone seeking to elevate your spiritual life.

I want to give this five stars. I really do. The title and purpose of this book is all about becoming a people who passionately chase after God. Tommy Tenney scores big on that point. This is the third time, in the past couple decades, that I have read this book and it still pulls at my heart strings toward a more passionate pursuit of my Savior.

The only thing is, TT plays to flippantly with bad exegetics. An example. He says something along the lines of, "some scholars say that Uzzah grew up around the ark. I can imagine sitting on the box as a boy swinging his legs..." Really? You can? Who are these 'some scholars'? In what context did they speak or write? It doesn't take a theologian or Jewish historian to know that even if Uzzah did grow up in Kiriath-Jearim, the odds of him doing anything remotely what TT writes are virtually nill. I'm pretty sure TT knows this. So why would he write it?

Other similar illustrations like this abound. While leading toward very legitimate points, they take away from the quality of what should be a five star book. Yes, read The God Chasers. Then give it to someone else to read as well. Just realize that it is a book heavy on passion and weak on scholarship.

The book talks about a revival in the church through seeking God. Not just seeking God’s blessings (the things he can give us), but actually seeking His face. The book was written to usher in God’s presence in your life and your church family. Tenney said that the fires of revival must first ignite the church before its flames can spread to the street. God’s glory only comes when repentance and brokenness drive you to your knees, because His presence requires purity. I like this book because the author talks about changes you should make in order to have a closer relationship with God.
