Khaled Hosseini is one of the best writers I have ever read. I have read too many people saying that all his books are the same but I could never get tired of the way he writes, and I feel like white writers never get the same criticism. People say write what you know, and you can feel how well he knows what he’s writing about. I could feel every emotion through the pages, I could envisage the Afghanistan in his mind. It made me think about my privilege and how lucky I am, whilst also acknowledging my own sorrows and the terrible state of this world.
I have read people saying that they liked this book less, that they didn’t connect to all the characters but I feel like I just felt everything for even more characters. I feel like I could’ve cried at every chapter, each character came through so strongly. I would advise people to go in expecting 9 interconnected short stories instead of 1 story but I don’t think the book is any worse for it, in fact it might even be more valuable for it for me. Writing this now I am still thinking about all the incredible details, all of the heartbreaking moments and I am just in awe of Khaled Hosseini. Everyone should read this book.
