I loved Hosseini's previous books and was looking forward to reading this. It started out well. A little slow and confusing, until I got into the rhythm of it. This is several stories. Each character's story, somehow connected to the next, which eventually comes full circle. Toward the end, though, I just wanted to be finished.

This is the story about an Afghanistan brother and sister who were separated when she was only three years old. Her new father soon becomes ill and she moves to Paris with her mother. Throughout her life she recalls fragments of her past, fragments that are reminiscent of a good dream that you awake from and cannot remember the details. Fragments of the feeling that someone has been missing from her life, someone she could not forget...and unfortunately cannot remember either.
The book dwells a lot on the sister, her uncle and several other characters that are not always central to the story. I kept waiting for the author to bring it all together and it was a long and curious path to get there. It was a book that made me constantly contemplate how to fit the seemingly unrelated pieces of the story together.

His books are so engrossing. I can't say enough about his style of writing and his ability to pull you right into the story. Although written differently than previous novels this was equally enjoyable. His style of interweaving the storyline through generations and cultures is very well done. I really can't find anything about his work that I don't like

This book was much slower to start than Hosseini's previous books, but worthwhile in the end. It does take patience to follow the story line as it jumps a bit from different time periods and different characters.

I love books told by different characters. All of the characters lives intersect at some point. Some are related, some are not. I cried at the end.

I enjoyed this book in so many ways. This is my first book by this author, and I appreciate his thorough and picturesque writing of the land and the people. Considered drawing a family/community tree several times while reading this book just to keep up with all the characters.
