Solid advice, didn’t need the praise for the CrossFit cult.

I had written a review and goodreads closed on me.

Let’s see if I can remember it.

Newport makes some good points, but for people who feel isolated in their current physical communities, social media can be a lifeline for those who mentally need a community to relate to. Me. It’s me. Hi. I’m the problem it’s me.

He is an extreme who doesn’t use socials and minimizes tech, but that’s not necessarily something many people can even strive to do. Basically take this with a grain of salt, try and find balance with real relationships outside of devices, minimize screen time. Everything we’ve already heard before.

I was sufficiently terrified by Cal Newport's assessments of the Social Media Industry and its Evil Grasp on everyone's psychology. That part was good. I do think it's a slightly weaker book than Deep Work, indeed I didn't feel like it offered really that much more content than the chapters devoted to the subject in the previous book. That being said, I am absolutely doing the digital declutter. I was sold on that, so overall it already ranks among the more useful time management books.

A powerful and important book for this day and age. As a member of the “iGen” demographic, this book really changed my habits and views surrounding my personal use of technology. Can not recommend this highly enough, especially to those born around the dawn of the millennium.
