Rating: 4/5 stars

Winslow Covington is the new chief of police for Quincy, Montana, and she doesn’t have time for relationships—much less with her one night stand, who is actually the son of the most prominent family in town.

I had so much fun buddy reading this one! I am not usually a big fan of romantic suspense, because I feel like the suspense plot tends to take a backseat, but I thought it was well done here and I was really interested in the crime and its resolution. I also loved the setting, and the characters/family dynamics were super fun as well. In a lot of ways, this reminds me of a contemporary Montana version of the Bridgertons, and I am here for that.

I didn’t love the romance aspect of the plot quite as much, and felt like some of the relationship between Griffin and Winslow was a bit rushed or underdeveloped. I also expected way more spice, and while I’d be fine with this if it was consistent, I was a bit confused by the choice to have several fade-to-black scenes before ultimately including open-door scenes about halfway through the book.

Overall, though, I recommend this one and I’d call it a pretty solid four stars. I’m really excited to continue with the series!

CW: Murder/violence/blood/injury; death of parent; mentions of suicide; dementia

I'm starting to wonder if Devney Perry isn't the best fit for me 🫤

While this was good, it kept losing my interest throughout. The mystery was okay, but I feel it could have been much better.

I loved Winslow and how sure of herself she was. She was a strong female lead and I liked how she wasn't afraid to put Griffin in his place.

Also, why does the name of the vehicle need to be said every single time it's driven?! You can say she stepped into her car, it doesn't have to be mentioned every single time that it's a Durango. Just sayin'.

This was my first ever Devney Perry book. And I’m hooked. She has quickly become one of my favourite romance writers ever.
This book is amazing. Griffin and Winn will forever be my favourite Eden couple. This was romanic and mysterious with a plot that kept me intrigued the whole time.
