It was boring and flat, the characters weren't interesting, and the dark stuff veered towards being edgy rather than impactful/actually meaningful. The dialogue was also cringe-worthy and poor, the story meandred too much, and Peter's entire backstory was ridiculous.

I wanted to enjoy this, so it was pretty disappointing for it to be this bad. DNF as I didn't want to waste anymore time on it.

Wow!!! Brom is truly a master and an artist. The writing of this book was perfection, and made me imagine the world so vividly. I also love how not a single character was completely good or bad. It had me questioning who to believe or root for constantly. And even though this is based on a well known fairy tale, it still felt completely new and original.
Absolutely loved it and I want to read everything else Brom has written.
Read from the BYU library.

Didn't enjoy the amount of graphic violence. There was also something that just...didn't work for me throughout the whole book. I can't put my finger on what it is. Maybe the erasure of Wendy and Tink? It wasn't bad as far as reimaginings go, it just wasn't for me.

Although the beginning of the book is a little slow, you still get invested in the story, wondering how this retelling will go. It certainly picks up the pace and is action-packed halfway through.

This fairytale retelling is really dark. This is gore galore, so if that's your kind of book, I definitely recommend this. Now, I'm not a fan of gore, and I felt like, at least for me, some of the over-the-top violence (heads rolling, guts dropping, you get the gist) was a little unnecessary, but it does add its charm to the book.

I liked this book a lot. I liked how it pictured Neverland, how eery it felt. I liked Peter's portrayal as well. Not gonna lie, when I watched the movies as a child, although I did like him, he always felt off. As I grew up and thought about it, I could feel there was definitely darkness somewhere. And then I found out about the original, and was obsessed with thinking about how, pardon my french, fucked the story was. The Child Thief definitely captured the vibe I felt from the story.
